TITLE: Nurse Practitioner

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYEE STATUS: Full Time

WAGE: $110,000 \xe2\x80\x93 125,000 per year

The Butte Native Wellness Center (BNWC) is an Urban Indian Clinic serving Butte, MT, and the surrounding communities.

Our mission is to promote a healthy, traditional, and spiritual community for urban American Indians and Alaska Natives by providing comprehensive health and wellness services.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner is part of the management team and is responsible for the culturally sensitive diagnosis and treatment of actual or potential health problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works as a licensed independent practitioner with indirect supervision from the Medical Director to provide primary care services;
  • Examines patients and establishes medical diagnoses from client history, physical examination, and other criteria;
  • Orders, conducts, and interprets screening studies, tests, and diagnostic procedures to assess and diagnose problems and establish management/treatment plans;
  • Initiates consultation, collaboration, and referral requests to specialists and other health professionals;
  • Teaches, counsels, and advises patients, families, and communities about current health status and illness, and provides health promotion and disease prevention services, taking into account age, developmental status, disability, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, spiritual/religious affiliation, and lifestyle issues;
  • Provides appropriate assessments and screenings, and coordinates referrals for mental/behavioral health, family violence, and diseases of addiction;
  • Prescribes and dispenses medications and durable medical devices and supplies;
  • Provides culturally competent care with respect to culture, tribal, and spiritual beliefs;
  • Practices as part of a care team;
  • Provides oversight of clinical staff;
  • Participates on health-related committees and serves as a resource for program planning and policies;
  • Incorporates new procedures and treatment protocols into practice after appropriate training, evaluation of competence, identification and referral system related to the new procedure, and periodic outcome and competency review; and
  • Practices in accordance with the standards of practice as defined by the American Academy of Nurse
  • Practitioners and/or as outlined by an American professional organization for a specific specialty such as pediatrics, geriatrics, emergency care, etc.
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills;
  • Ability to assess and diagnose, formulate treatment plans, and provide patient education;
  • Ability to interpret and translate research into practice;
  • Ability to use technology and inform their configuration and improvement;
  • Ability to develop health policy and identify policy improvement opportunities; and
  • Knowledge of Indian Health Services (IHS) and the IHS Health Manual.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) preferred;
  • Currently licensed to practice in the state of Montana, or the ability to become licensed;
  • Experience working as an APRN preferred;
  • Experience working with underserved populations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination;

- Stand for long periods of time; and

- Able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
