Job description:

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is a Register Nurse with NPD practice judgement and expertise who influence professional role competence and growth of learners. The NPD practitioner is responsible for supporting learners within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association.

This position works in collaboration with nursing leadership to foster and influence competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice and onboarding/orientation of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues.

The practitioner is an essential member of the nursing leadership team who promotes the alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the HHC system as a whole.

Role Responsibilities:

\xc2\xb7 Uses the educational design process and adult learning principles to bridge the knowledge, skills and/or practice gaps identified through learning needs assessment and evaluation of outcomes.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborates with members of the nursing leadership team to assess learning needs, develops programs, monitors clinical competency and supports action plans. Represents nursing in the development of inter-professional learning activities.

\xc2\xb7 Promotes professional nursing practice and quality patient care according to the ANA standards of practice. Endorses the theory-based approach through the continuum of practice from novice to expert.

\xc2\xb7 Advances the profession of nursing and the NPD specialty by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting the ongoing professional learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings.

\xc2\xb7 Develops, facilitates, conducts and evaluates programs during the onboarding phase and when changes in roles, responsibilities and practice occur.

\xc2\xb7 Works to transform processes at micro, meso and/or macro system levels. Uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes.

\xc2\xb7 Promotes a spirit of inquiry, the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice, guide clinical practice and improve the quality of care for the healthcare consumer/partner.

\xc2\xb7 Utilizes tools to capture knowledge, skill, ability judgment and performance during the situational or dynamic phases of practice (i.e. initial and ongoing competencies).

Qualifications

\xc2\xb7 Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience. At least 1 year of experience in an acute care environment. Experience as a preceptor.

\xc2\xb7 One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, nursing professional development and/or specialty area preferred.

\xc2\xb7 Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.

\xc2\xb7 NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire hire/transfer

\xc2\xb7 BLS required.

\xc2\xb7 NPD Specialty certification.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs.

\xc2\xb7 Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of unit based orientation plans.

\xc2\xb7 Strong skills in the process of educational needs assessments.

\xc2\xb7 Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

\xc2\xb7 Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

\xc2\xb7 Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and strong skills in excel.
