Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Apprentice, you will deliver high quality, patient centered care in a variety of services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.

4 Units to choose from:
  • Ortho/Spine Unit
  • Comprehensive Medical/Surgical Unit
  • Medical Surgical Pavilion
  • Medical Telemetry Unit
In this role:
  • You will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance your skills/training and the needs of the department.
  • You will consistently assist the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
  • You will act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
  • You will obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests and ensure accuracy of all labels and a timely transfer of specimen.
  • You will follow patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • You will perform clerical work as needed, including assembling and maintaining charts, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Nurse Apprentice license
  • In the last semester of nursing school at BYU Provo, UVU or Ameritech
  • Previous C.N.A or Unit Secretary experience preferred
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
Upon completion and graduation from your nursing program, you will transition into The Residency program.
  • TheResidency Programbegins on your first day and continues through your first year. The program kicks off with your first week in general orientation, followed by specialized training related to the unit you are hired on
  • As part of your specialized training, you will participate inhands on skills education and high fidelity simulation. We call this portion of your training the StaRN (Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses) program.
  • Upon completion of this training, you will transition to your full time clinical preceptorship phase in unit you have been hired to
  • You willcontinue to attend residency classesand participate in professional development activities throughout the first year of your employment. You will get detailed information on these activities from your clinical educator.
  • Youdon\xe2\x80\x99t need to have taken NCLEX to start the program, but you do need to have your license within90 days of your start date
  • You arebenefits eligible after 31 days. This includes medical, dental, 401 (k), tuition reimbursement, loan assistance, and several other benefits.
