Nurse Advisor

The Public Health Institute (PHI) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and quality of life for people throughout California, across the nation and around the world. As one of the largest and most comprehensive public health organizations in the nation, we are at the forefront of research and innovations to improve the efficacy of public health statewide, nationally, and internationally.

Position Summary
Bridge is an initiative of the Public Health Institute (PHI) transforming emergency care to improve community health and advance equity. Our largest program, CA Bridge, is changing the way substance use treatment is provided in California by building the capacity of hospitals and emergency rooms to serve as primary access points for the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs) with medications (methadone or buprenorphine for opioid use disorder) and navigation to behavioral health services. Our model includes rapid starts of buprenorphine for addiction treatment (MAT), building a stigma-free culture within hospitals, and utilizing trained navigators to connect patients to community resources.

Our goal is to make treatment available to anyone who needs it without judgment or access barriers while reducing stigma and promoting recovery in all California hospitals. We are committed to reducing racial disparities in the negative consequences of substance use and are part of a broader effort across California to increase access to MAT for opioid use disorder (OUD) to reverse the opioid epidemic that has devastated hundreds of thousands of lives.
