The Night Shift Nurse is responsible for organizing and assigning nightly duties to ensure an even workload among staff, administering medications as scheduled, and providing high-quality clinical care to residents on their assigned wing. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain calm and efficient operations throughout the night.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current
Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
or
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
license in the
State of Illinois
.
Demonstrated working knowledge of general nursing principles and practices.
Previous supervisory experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.
Ability to make independent decisions and exercise mature judgment.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with all staff levels.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly and effectively.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Support and uphold the facility's philosophy of care, goals, and objectives.
Organize and assign all nightly work to CNAs, ensuring fair distribution of tasks, defined break times, and completion of special duties.
Supervise and evaluate staff performance, ensuring all resident care assignments are completed properly.
Administer and document medications and treatments (including IM, SC, IV, and parenteral injections) per physician orders using the
EMR system
.
Conduct regular rounds to monitor resident conditions, ensuring Care Plans are followed and updated as needed.
Notify families promptly of any significant change in a resident's condition or hospital transfer, documenting all communication.
Maintain accurate narcotic counts and medication records; review documentation daily and weekly for accuracy.
Prepare incident, accident, and observation reports promptly within the EMR system.
Oversee dietary and fluid intake documentation, noting and reporting any abnormal findings.
Ensure compliance with all infection control, safety, and universal precaution standards.
Report any malfunctioning equipment, supply shortages, or safety hazards to the ADON.
Participate in required meetings, in-services, and performance reviews as directed.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold residents' rights at all times.
Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, including those related to fire safety, disaster response, and emergency evacuation.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the DON, ADON, or Administrator.
