The Neurology Revenue Cycle Manager at New Jersey Pediatric Neuroscience Institute ("NJPNI") is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the neurology billing and coding team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant billing, coding, and collection practices across all NJPNI sites. This role requires extensive knowledge of revenue cycle management, insurance processes, regulatory compliance, and the ability to lead and train staff. The Revenue Cycle Manager collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer, Practice Manager, physicians, other clinical providers and administrative personnel to identify opportunities for process improvement and optimize practice revenue. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Morristown, NJ, with occasional travel to other NJPNI locations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Oversight



Supervise and support the neurology billing team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Ensure billing staff adhere to NJPNI policies, federal/state regulations, and third-party payer requirements. Monitor team workload and productivity; ensure even distribution of tasks and coverage for time-off. Serve as liaison between the billing department, clinical providers, front desk staff, and administrative leadership. Lead regular billing team meetings to review updates, address challenges, and implement improvements. Represent the Billing Department at leadership meetings.



Revenue Cycle Management



Oversee all neurology billing and coding functions, including data entry, charge capture, claim submission, denial management, and payment posting. Identify and resolve billing and collection conflicts for patients, families, and payers. Manage insurance claim follow-ups, denials, and appeals to ensure maximum reimbursement. Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and Practice Manager to support financial reporting and budgeting initiatives. Keep accurate and timely logs of billing activities and collections.






Oversee monthly patient statement distribution process. Ensure patient balances are reviewed and collection efforts are appropriate and compassionate. Oversee all collection efforts and interface with external collection agencies as needed.



Compliance and Credentialing



Maintain current knowledge of payer policies, CMS regulations, HIPAA, and billing compliance guidelines. Oversee proper application of CPT, ICD-10, and modifier codes to ensure accurate claim submissions. Maintain accurate credentialing with insurance carriers and hospitals for all clinical providers; oversee updates and renewals. Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) with patients as necessary to explain payment and billing decisions.



Reporting and Analysis



Generate and present monthly, quarterly, and annual billing and collection reports to the Practice Manager. Analyze trends and metrics to identify process inefficiencies or payer issues and recommend corrective action. Monitor AR aging and ensure timely action on unpaid accounts. Partner with IT to maintain integrity of all billing related master file data.



Other Responsibilities



Participate in professional development and educational opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, Practice Manager or NJPNI Administration.



Qualifications and Requirements:



Minimum 3 to 5+ years of experience in medical billing/coding (neurology experience preferred). High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Strong understanding of medical insurance contracting, financials, processes, terminology, and CPT/ICD-10 coding. Knowledge of Athenahealth or similar EMR/billing systems preferred. Ability to competently use Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under pressure. Experience in supervising or training staff in a billing department is highly preferred.
