Overview:

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a Network Engineer as part of our Information Technology team to support, configure, maintain, and upgrade the organizational network (end user devices, network infrastructure, SaaS & PaaS solutions). Additionally, you will take part in end user support and on call rotation. An ideal candidate will be proficient in network troubleshooting, have experience integrating SaaS solutions, and show aptitude for rapidly growing in knowledge of a diverse technology stack in ever evolving SaaS landscape.
An ideal candidate for this role is a quick and adaptable learner. As a member of a small team, time will be divided between helpdesk tasks, maintenance tasks, and project tasks. Members of the team will work collaboratively towards goals in a self-organizing collaboration. Members of the team are empowered to translate high level objectives and define specific tasks for completion based on knowledge, skills, and resources. This is a full-time on-site role in Arlington, VA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage existing SaaS and PaaS solutions ensuring stability of systems, integrations, and services.
  • Implement solutions and integrations as directed by Network Architect \xe2\x80\x93 able to take high level architectural guidelines and research and deploy specific solutions within a structured change management environment.
  • Participate in rotation to manage ticket queue and ensure the support team meets SLA targets.
  • Participate in on call rotation for responding to network and system outages outside of business hours (approximately one week a month).
  • Provide remote access support; configure and install VPN clients; support a distributed workforce in troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Monitor data governance; maintain file quotas, data limits, and plan for and perform data restoration.
  • Provide support with switch configuration; configure wall-jacks for VLAN assignment.
  • Provide technical assistance to junior team members for troubleshooting VPN, network drives, and file shared volumes.
  • Provide Data Warehouse Support for managing data analytics projects.
  • Troubleshoot and configure SSO in Okta.
  • Develop and maintain automated processes including for employee onboarding/offboarding/transitions.
  • Develop and maintain device and user based policies.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 4+ years of proven experience working in an end user facing support role
  • Network+ certification or equivalent (required)
  • Experience with Windows 10/11 and Mac OS 10.4-13
  • Demonstrated ability to provide infrastructure and administrative support
  • Excellent customer focus and emotional intelligence with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to work on call schedule (night/weekend rotation with team) and during project deployments to work non-standard hours
  • Experience directly and indirectly managing staff

Good to have:
  • Security+ and/or similar or higher level of IT security certification
  • Experience with: Okta, JumpCloud, AWS, Atlassian, Cisco/Meraki
