: Install, configure, and maintain an organization\'s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers.
Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems.
Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.
Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.
Project specific:
responsible for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and usage of the organization\'s local area network.
Manages network performance and maintains network security.
Ensures that security procedures are implemented and enforced.
Installs all network software.
Evaluates, develops and maintains telecommunications systems.
Troubleshoots network problems. Establishes and implements network policies, procedures, and standards and ensures their conformance with information systems and organization objectives.
Trains users on network operation.
Frequently reports to Senior Network Engineer/Description: Under direct supervision, maintains the integrity of the operating system environment.
Performs system software upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing, and coordination.
Performs workstation and server administration setup.
Coordinates disk space planning and management.
Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories.
Performs data backups and recoveries.
Monitors and maintains continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements.

Desired: Principle support for:
IP Routing, Ethernet Switching, VPN\'s, Security, QoS, TCP Optimization, Remote/Local Access, Campus / WAN, IP Services, Firewall, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), BGP, and Hypervisors.

Major Duties:

  • Perform systems engineering processes, procedures, and best practices. Provide engineering expertise to activities such as development, testing, evaluating, training and configuration management in support of an acquisition program.
  • Provide engineering support on the transport and networking architecture focused on current and future network capabilities.
  • Support design reviews and perform thorough, in-depth technical evaluations and assessments of network performance and architectures, to include support of risk assessments and integration strategies.
  • Effectively collaborate with organizations to include, but not limited to PEO C3T, other PMs and PdMs, ACM and other Army wide stakeholders and coordinate on interoperability considerations.
Proven systems engineering competency should include, but not be limited to, familiarity with:
  • Experience in network engineering
  • Experience in designing and implementing LANs or VLANs
  • Experience with routing protocols, routing configurations, IPv4/IPv6 addressing, etc.
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with Cisco SD Wan
  • Knowledge of commercial communications equipment
  • Knowledge of Army transport and network architectures
  • Knowledge of end-to-end network design and performance
  • Knowledge of voice/data transmission and backbone networks
  • Knowledge of RF engineering
  • Knowledge of tactical communications systems
