Brief Position Overview
As members of the MSU IT community, Network Analysts participate in and support IT efforts, projects, and initiatives, provide technical leadership and assist other support personnel with problems related to the usage of services across the network services portfolio. Network Analysts perform technically skilled precision work and provide complete, enterprise-level, engineering, installation, management, maintenance and support of network and telecommunications equipment, software, services, communications cabling, and related infrastructure, including UPS, PDU, pathways, racks and cabinets. Network Analysts respond to issues, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair these items to address problems found in data centers, telecommunications rooms, and at field sites on and off the MSU Bozeman campus according to standard procedure and industry best practices. Network Analysts' work schedules may require non-standard working hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

General Statement
Join us at our beautiful Montana State University campus located in Bozeman, Montana for an exciting opportunity to contribute as a member of our talented Network Services team. The Network Analyst I provides technical support for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network and telecommunications systems and services. Working under general to direct supervision, this role supports operational continuity and customer service for the MSU community in accordance with institutional and industry standards.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support unified communications, telecommunications, and network systems and services, including IP phones, voice gateways, switches, routers, access points, servers, and related infrastructure.
  • Provide front-line end-user support, including service request fulfillment, incident response, troubleshooting, and user training for network and telecommunications services.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of network, telecommunications, and communications cabling issues in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with scheduled maintenance, software updates, equipment upgrades, and lifecycle activities for network and telecommunications systems.
  • Use monitoring and management tools to identify service issues and take appropriate corrective action under direction.
  • Document installations, configurations, changes, and operational information to support service continuity and future planning.
  • Maintain equipment rooms, tools, and inventory in accordance with industry good-housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Apply established networking, telecommunications, and security standards and best practices to assigned tasks.
  • Assist with training activities and provide guidance to student employees as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development, projects, and other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills * Basic understanding of networking, telecommunications, and communications cabling concepts.
  • Experience using Network monitoring and management tools.
  • Experience using standard tools and equipment in a technical environment.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills * Experience with Cisco Unified Communications systems.
  • Experience with Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience with Aruba wireless systems.
  • Experience with documenting network diagrams and standards.
