Job Description

NDT Level II Ultrasonic Shear Wave (UTSW) technician needed with Shear Wave experience to use ultrasonic waves to find internal defects in materials like welds, piping, and pressure vessels. This role requires certification, typically through the ASNT, specific training and experience, proficiency with specialized equipment, and the ability to interpret test results to write detailed reports. Key duties include performing independent inspections, ensuring equipment calibration, adhering to safety protocols, and mentoring Level I technicians. Key responsibilities

Perform inspections:

Independently conduct ultrasonic shear wave inspections on various materials such as welds, piping, and pressure vessels, following client and company standards.

Interpret results:

Analyze and interpret test results to identify and document defects, anomalies, and structural issues.

Report findings:

Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports documenting all findings and actions taken.

Operate and maintain equipment:

Operate, calibrate, and maintain ultrasonic testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Ensure safety:

Adhere to all company and client safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications and skills

Certification:

ASNT Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is standard, often with specific certification in shear wave (UTSW).

Training:

Completed required classroom training hours that cover UT Level I and Level II principles, including instrumentation, calibration (e.g., AWS, ASME), and code interpretation.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years as a Level II UT technician. Must have Shear Wave experience.

Technical skills:

Proficiency in using specialized NDT equipment, understanding of material properties, and familiarity with relevant codes and standards.

Soft skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication (written and verbal), and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
