Starting salary for this position:

$46,092.80/Annual

($22.16/Hourly) Offered salary will be determined by experience, qualifications, and skill set that the candidate brings to the position. The purpose of this position is to provide evidence-based programs (EBP) and cognitive behavior intervention (CIB) programs which have demonstrated results in reducing the chances of convicted adult male felons in KDOC to recidivate. This is accomplished by instructing and coordinating the instruction of these programs with staff and volunteers. KDOC is committed to providing EBP focused on reducing recidivism to prevent further harm to victims or potential victims and to improve public safety.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Ensures effective referrals, screening, placement and monitoring of progress in risk reduction groups. Supervises Program Providers to deliver evidence-based programming, using core correctional practices, with fidelity. This includes ensuring a schedule is in place; well-run groups; 1:1 to supplement groups as needed; preparation for groups and follow up as needed; appropriate space and climate for groups; and close collaboration with unit team regarding use of programs. This also includes coaching program staff in effective programming, ensuring booster practice sessions, training, and other development as needed. This also includes ensuring program participation is timely and accurately tracked through the program referral process, entry/exit/completion program coding. This also includes monitoring the award of program credit to ensure the most possible award possible, with fidelity. Serve as on site liaison for education and substance abuse programming, coordination with those providers regarding space, program referrals, and the overall implementation of quality and robust programs and services. Provide support for all of the processes necessary for these programs and services, coordination program placement; addressing logistics; and supporting ongoing coaching and training. This position schedules, monitors, and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the classes, including any necessary Athena entries, and; any other aspect of the administration of the classes.


Supervise staff by providing clear expectations, guidance, skills-development, and coaching, communicating by word and action through the KDOC Pathways for Success mission, vision and principles. Demonstrate, model and teach, problem solving, getting the big picture, collaboration, active listening, translating information and communicating, effectively responding to behavior, working harmoniously with team members, being innovative and progressive, and being positive and professional. Work with your team members to ensure they are proficient and have the confidence to do their work. Also identify goals to increase their skills and when they desire to advance help them develop a career pathway and receive the training and information to support that pathway. Be open to feedback, be approachable, and ensure feedback between you and your team, in both directions, is specific, timely, constructive, and well given and received.


Establish regular and positive communication with unit team, supporting risk reduction case management; modeling the use of EPICS; participating in planning and training sessions to build capacity; and ensuring case management is well-coordinated with reentry programs and services. Establish and convene multi discipline teams to review cases in the measure needed to ensure case management and reentry services are delivered consistently and with quality.


This position establishes skills-building classes for residents, matching appropriate dose levels with resident risk needs, and tailoring classes to special needs populations. These classes include Adult Core, Career Readiness, Sex Offender Programming, parenting, substance abuse, work release readiness, and various other skills-building classes or curriculum approved by KDOC.


This position works closely with facility leadership to identify gaps in available classes and services for all risk levels, including SB14 eligible residents to ensure those residents have access to classes and activities that decrease the risk of recidivism, using good time program credits as an incentive. This position makes recommendations and takes steps to reduce any identified gaps.

One year of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, or business management or related field and one (1) year of experience working planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to residents in corrections. Agency approved substitution for bachelor's degree: 60 semester hours of college credit, with twelve (12) hours in corrections or related field, and three (3) years of experience working with residents in corrections. Self-directed Demonstrates professional alignment with evidence-based practices including cognitive-based skills-building programs, classes and interventions. Strong facilitation skills, including ability to be purposeful, engaging and respectful with residents, and flow with group dynamics during skills-building classes. Experience in skills-building, in a group or individual setting. Job knowledge in corrections. Job knowledge in workforce development. Organizational skills. Able to work effectively with a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation. Ability to boundary span between areas of operation.
