Job Description


Help plan and execute recreational and therapeutic activities for Veterans in the Home. As a Therapeutic Services Worker, you will aid in making detailed preparations for and carry out planned activities in recreational, occupational, physical, music, and related therapy areas. You will learn activity techniques and their therapeutic applications as a means of developing the Veterans\xe2\x80\x99 social skills, responsibility, and initiative, as well as their ability to cope with problems, gain self-satisfaction and adapt to real situations. This position will provide Veterans with the resources, support, and services necessary to provide recreational and therapeutic activities and leisure education appropriate to their physical and cognitive ability. Hourly Range: $16.31 - $17.66
Pay commensurate with experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general methods of preparing for and conducting planned sessions of group activities
  • Ability to learn the basic principles and methods of recreational, music, and other related therapeutic activities, and their application to the treatment of geriatric Veterans
Qualifications:
  • 0-1 year of work experience. Substitutions may be allowed
  • Missouri Class E driver license
Physical Requirements:
  • Walking, balancing, finger dexterity, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, bending, lifting, supporting, repetitive motion, frequent washing of hands
  • Essential sensory and communicative activities include: feeling, seeing speaking, hearing, smelling and tasting
Summary:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of resources, support and services necessary to provide recreational and therapeutic activities and leisure education appropriate to resident abilities
  • Lead group and one-on-one activities appropriate to resident needs. Ensure Veterans are knowledgeable of and exercise their rights.
  • Assist in the planning of the activity program. Make arrangements for entertainment, special programs and group outings as assigned. Ensure a positive and fun environment is provided for the Veterans
  • Maintain activity attendance records for Veterans
  • Maintain activity equipment and supplies in an orderly fashion
  • As necessary, drive bus or other state vehicles during day and/or nighttime hours both in town and on the highway
  • Push wheelchairs and adjust foot pedals, secure wheelchairs in vans and bus with tie downs, transfers Veterans from wheelchair to chair/vehicle seats, transport and escort Veterans to and from activity areas
  • Lift and move Veterans with physical disabilities for positioning, toileting, transferring, etc. as needed
  • Lift/move supplies and equipment (i.e. activity supplies, games, etc.)
  • Attend and participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings as required
  • Document accurately assessments, progress notes and care plans. Perform manual electronic data entry. Communicate status of Veterans to recreational director
  • Adhere to infection control procedures as trained
