CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: MUNICIPAL FACILITIES WORKER I

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled, semi-skilled, and manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings, facilities and related equipment/systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

\xc2\xb7 Performs skilled and semi-skilled labor/repair functions such as construction, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, metal fabrication, heating, air conditioning, painting, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various construction work such as planning/constructing wood or metal frame structures, repairing roof leaks, removing/installing interior walls, hanging/finishing drywall, replacing doors/windows, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various carpentry work such as building/repairing cabinetry, repairing/refinishing furniture, painting/staining surfaces, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various electrical work such as installing electrical circuits, repairing electrical motors/fixtures, replacing electrical receptacles and fuses, testing/troubleshooting electrical components, maintaining electrical door operating systems, replacing light bulbs and ballasts, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various mechanical work such as maintaining generators, motors and pumps, repairing/maintaining appliances, maintaining/operating mechanical overhead doors, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various plumbing work such as installing/replacing plumbing systems/fixtures, cleaning/maintaining water lines and drains, repairing plumbing leaks, installing water/sewer lines, installing/maintaining sewage lift stations, draining pool water lines, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various welding work; fabricates metal parts and components.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various heating/air conditioning work such as repairing/maintaining heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, installing ductwork, cleaning condenser coils, replacing filters, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Performs various general/manual work associated with department projects, which may include preparing city facilities for changes in weather/seasons, maintaining boat docks, maintaining pool systems, removing snow from walkways and building entrances, inspecting fire extinguishers, repairing/replacing locks/hardware, running cables/wires, moving or setting up furniture/equipment, picking up debris/litter, collecting recyclable materials, installing city holiday decorations, lifting/moving heavy materials, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with maintaining city buildings and systems, which may include a utility vehicle, air handler, chiller, boiler, generator, pump, air compressor, dust collection system, wastewater lift station, radial arm saw, table saw, planer, wood lathe, miter saw, router, bench grinder, cutting torch, welder, torch, drill press, drill, gauges, meters, carpentry tools, drywall tools, painting tools, plumbing tools, power tools, mechanical tools, diagnostic instruments, drafting instruments, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Tests machinery and equipment for proper operations; detects hazards and makes adjustments, repairs or replacements as appropriate.

\xc2\xb7 Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects.

\xc2\xb7 Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning shop and work areas, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

\xc2\xb7 Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

\xc2\xb7 Performs janitorial functions for city facilities when needed; performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with projects.

\xc2\xb7 Monitors inventory levels of parts, equipment, tools, or supplies; dispenses janitorial supplies to city departments and contracted services; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.

\xc2\xb7 Prepares or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, logs, test records, drawings, maps, and other documents.

\xc2\xb7 Receives various forms, reports, blueprints, diagrams, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

\xc2\xb7 Communicates with supervisor, employees, city departments, vendors/suppliers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

\xc2\xb7 Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains regular and predictable in-person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson is required.

\xc2\xb7 Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City\'s Drug and Alcohol policy.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in basic mechanics, basic plumbing, basic electrical work, basic carpentry, and general building maintenance/repair; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving mechanics, painting, plumbing, electrical work, construction or general building maintenance/repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver\'s License.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications. Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of the same equipment, machinery, and/or objects.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing (access of 40\') and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, electric currents, traffic hazards, or toxic agents.
