Job Description


Overview

The Edith Bowen Laboratory School library Media Specialist is a critical position in our school. This position (Multimedia Specialist II) is 80% time, meaning 206 working days (including USU holidays) and most of the summer off. Our library media specialist is responsible for overseeing and supervising the Anne Carroll Moore Library and developing its collection, teaching EBLS students in media time, ordering and distributing student technology, and collaborating with other teachers on developing and facilitating high-quality student learning experiences, among other things.

Responsibilities

Oversee and Supervise Library Operation

  • Supervise all library tasks and staff.
  • Establish policies and procedures for library services.
  • Assign jobs related to library operation.
  • Coordinate with Merrill-Cazier Library on managerial and budgetary matters.
  • Develop library collection
  • See that all catalogs, collections, and resources are up to date.
  • Select and procure materials.
  • Weed out unnecessary materials on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate all acquisitions, cataloging, and serial needs with respective Merrill-Cazier personnel.
  • Help university students and faculty locate information and materials in specialized areas.
  • Support patrons and Edith Bowen students in finding appropriate reading materials.
Edith Bowen Teacher Responsibilities
  • Deliver weekly media lessons to assist students in relevant skill development.
  • Apply sound classroom management principles to support students in the classroom during media time.
  • Integrate instruction with humanities teachers.
  • Develop and implement makerspace activities with students.
  • Design and implement a 6th grade elective that allows students to experience various degree programs across USU campus.
School Responsibilities
  • Assist in ordering and distributing student computers and tablets.
  • Facilitate safe internet use trainings for students and parents annually.
  • Assist with EBLS traditions (Harry Potter Day, holiday festivities, grade level traditions, etc.).
  • Participate on teacher teams and committees as assigned.
  • Organize author visits.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional organizations related to librarianship such as UELMA and CVLA.
  • Read regularly published reviews to aid in collection development.
  • Promote the Anne Carroll Moore Library to the university and school community.
Other
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Either Utah Library Media K-12 endorsement OR a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in library science
  • Effective communication skills in dealing with children, parents, college students and professional colleagues
  • Excellent teaching skills and commitment to serving students
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to program implementation and scheduling
  • Experience with the use of technology in instruction
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an elementary school setting
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of constructivist learning theory and application
  • Experience with integrated instruction
  • Experience with makerspace management
