The Multi-Trade Supervisor will assume technical responsibility for leading a crew of multi-trade maintenance personnel in the completion of maintenance, repair, and alteration to College spaces. They will analyze and maintain the HVAC/R systems including pneumatic, electric, and direct digital control systems to determine optimum system operating conditions. They will provide support and advice to the Director about the HVAC/R campus wide systems and will assist in managing the operational budget thereof. This includes the participation in the drafting and solicitation of proposals for services and repairs that fall within their area of Management. As well as the oversite of above-mentioned awarded contracts for services and repairs. They will communicate and respond to the campus community as it relates to their area of responsibility. The incumbent will promptly resolve problems that arise, assure work is performed in a safe and proper manner and will communicate work status with customers and the director. The Multi-trades supervisor shall have a good knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, and electrical trades. The Multi-trades supervisor must follow College safety rules and regulations at all times. Participates in interviewing and hiring of technical staff, assist with staff development and provide feedback for the purpose of performance improvements. Serve as core essential employee.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Directs, organizes and supervises the colleges HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing shop personnel to ensure high quality work.
  • Safely and effectively performs and leads journey-level maintenance to a wide range of building systems and components, including but not limited to tasks in the HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting, electrical, painting, carpentry, and mechanical disciplines.
  • Manages the work needed for the campus wide HVAC, plumbing, Mechanical systems and electrical work including work done by outside contractors. Manages the contracts necessary for this work, and is responsible for scheduling and ensuring all systems remain compliant with local, state, federal and other agency certifications. Assists Director in the management of the operations and renewals budget as it pertains to these areas.
  • Work independently off work orders from TMA and assist other trades personnel with complex project work.
  • Drafting of Requests for proposal documents as directed and with assistance from the Director of Facilities pertaining to the areas and equipment that they manage.
  • Front line management of all capital repair projects that fall within the HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical shops under the supervision of the Director of Facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including overtime, emergency call back. Serve as core essential employee.
Education:

Required: Possess a High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Completion of vocational/technical education or equivalency in education and experience resulting in journey level skill status.

Preferred: 2 or 4-year degree in related field.

Professional Experience:

Required: Must have 5 years of journey level experience in one of the following core technical trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Pipefitting, or Electrical. Strong troubleshooting capability and the ability to analyze equipment performance issues. Possess ability to perform maintenance activities in areas such as laboratories and animal research facilities. Possess ability to understand technical drawings and equipment service manuals.

Preferred: Master level certification; experience managing a union staff
