About the Opportunity Augustine Angels is seeking a highly versatile, multi-disciplinary Art Instructor to lead a year-long art program for Veterans at Valor Point, a residential treatment program serving individuals recovering from homelessness, trauma, PTSD, and substance use. This instructor will teach 12 different art modules--each lasting 4 weeks--covering a broad range of creative mediums. This is meaningful, impactful work that helps Veterans build confidence, connection, and new coping skills through artistic expression. ? What You'll Teach You must be comfortable teaching ALL of the following modules:
Jewelry Making
Acrylic Painting
Drawing
Watercolor
Mixed Media
Photography
Fiber Arts
Book Arts
Ceramics (hand-built)
Pottery (with kiln finishing support provided)
Leatherwork
Woodworking (light, beginner-friendly projects)
You do not need to be a master in every discipline -- but you must be sufficiently knowledgeable, creative, adaptable, and confident leading beginners through approachable, therapeutic, hands-on projects. ? Role Responsibilities
Teach a weekly 2-hour onsite class (Wednesdays)
Deliver hands-on instruction in each of the 12 mediums
Introduce techniques, guide projects, and support Veteran creativity
Maintain a positive, calm, trauma-sensitive teaching environment
Work collaboratively with onsite VA behavioral health staff
Plan monthly project sequences and class flow
Prepare easy-to-execute, beginner-friendly projects for small groups (up to 6 Veterans)
Communicate with Augustine Angels' program lead and program assistant
Support Veteran confidence, self-expression, and emotional well-being
? You Bring
Demonstrated experience teaching multiple art forms
Ability to adapt beginner-friendly instruction across a wide range of materials
3+ years of experience as an artist, art educator, teaching artist, or creative facilitator
Experience working in community art programs, schools, recreation centers, or therapeutic environments
Compassion, patience, and respect for individuals navigating trauma or recovery
Ability to pass a federal background check
Reliable weekly availability on Wednesdays
