SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:

The principal will provide leadership to an elementary school to support staff and students in an effort to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Montana teaching license with a K-12 Principal endorsement.
  • Successful experience as a school principal.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years or more of experience as an elementary school principal.
  • Demonstrated leadership in an elementary school setting.
  • Knowledge and experience with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Experience and knowledge with Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
  • Experience with Montana special education laws and regulations.
  • Experience as a teacher/required certificated experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional growth.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
  • Manages, administers, and provides leadership to an Elementary school.
  • Provides instructional leadership in support of building level goals, action plans and the District Strategic Plan.
  • Works with staff members to create a positive, proactive climate that is conducive to student learning emphasizing mutual respect, student engagement and safety
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of instructional programs and activities to ensure the success of all learners and staff.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
  • Works as a member of the district administrative team and supports collaborative decision making and decisions.
  • Fosters a positive school culture and climate.
  • Administers discipline that is fair and appropriate to the student behavior and is consistent with the philosophy, goals, and policies of the school and school district.
  • Understands and applies policy, due process and administrative procedures.
  • Encourages the use of data to help drive instructional approaches, goals and action steps.
  • Helps collect and analyze student behavior, instructional data and attendance data to inform the MTSS team as a means for continual improvement of programs and systems for student achievement.
  • Counsels with students, parents and staff to resolve problems and concerns at the lowest level possible.
  • Develops and facilitates meetings with faculty, staff and administration in pursuit of educational goals.
  • Analyzes student performance data as a basis for curriculum improvement and professional development.
  • Actively participates as a team member, role model and leader of the PLC and the MTSS frameworks within the school.
  • Leads the successful implementation of the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) process and culture of collaboration in the building.
  • Supervises the development, implementation, distribution and orientation of the student handbook to ensure student and parent awareness of the school s policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with all schools in WSD for consistent grade level transitions.
  • Coordinates the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum and works to provide a horizontally and vertically aligned academic and social-emotional-behavior curriculum and approaches in support of district priorities.
  • Supervises and evaluates both certified and classified staff members following the evaluation model of the school district and in accordance with the negotiated agreements.
  • Works with others to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Oversee the school campus and facilities in relation to school safety, security, maintenance and use.
  • In collaboration with the assistant principal helps supervise after school events and activities as appropriate.
  • Fulfills other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This type of work involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time as required by situations of job position. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information, the manual dexterity to move related equipment, and the skills necessary to handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

School year working days as set by the Board of Trustees. Salary, benefits and other working conditions as negotiated and as assigned by the Administration.
