This Non-Permanent position is expected to last from September 17 - December 31, 2023

NOTE: Ccoordination with supervisor to adjust work schedule and/or work additional hours as required to meet business needs and deadlines.
Planned Schedule: Tuesday - Friday from 9:30 - 2:30, Saturday or Sunday from 11:30 - 4:30, and some evenings.
Approximately 16 hours per week, but may work more or fewer hours based on business needs. (Up to 25 hours per week),

Who we are:
The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region. The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts.

What you will be doing:
MINECRAFT: The Exhibition
This Exhibition celebrates the world\'s best-selling video game by exploring how Minecraft has developed into a platform for unlimited creative expression, community-crafting, and inspiration to build a better world outside of the game.

You will get to explore the limitless possibilities and tell your own story as you develop problem-solving skills, discover new design concepts, and create innovative solutions to real-world problems in this one-of-a -kind exhibition.

Minecraft: The exhibition is organized by the Museum of Pop Culture in partnership with Mojang Studios.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing includes:

  • Support visitors in the galleries, providing guidance and instruction
  • Maintain equipment
  • Foster an engaging environment for our visitors that supports innovation, critical-thinking and curiosity
  • Expresses interpretive concepts clearly and concisely to ensure that interpretation is both age-appropriate and fosters family learning
  • Conducts occasional visitor research to ensure exceptional visitor experiences
  • Develops and tracks attendance and engagement metrics
  • Protecting the exhibition from visitors touching and ensuring no food or drink is brought in
Qualifications

REQUIRED:
Bachelor\'s Degree in History, Education, Anthropology, Teaching, Art, Theater or Museum Studies

OR

Equivalent experience delivering tours or educational programs.

AND
  • Ability to lift/move/transfer 30 pounds.
  • Ability to express interpretive concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated success in creating exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Passion for sharing the region\'s stories with audiences of all ages, cultures, and learning preferences through a variety of media (printed, electronic, visual, etc.).
PREFERRED:
  • Pursuing Degree in Game Design, History, Education, Teaching, Art, Theater or Museum Studies
  • Understanding of inter-generational & individual learning styles, cultural dynamics, and AAM best practices
  • Working knowledge of AAM standards of interpretation and Visual Thinking Strategies interpretive techniques
