Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Industrial Journeyman Millwrights.
Position Summary
Industrial Millwrights, or Machinists, will be responsible for the installation of pumps, compressors, gearboxes, motors, and any other rotating equipment that could be installed in an industrial project. Experience and knowledge of the American Petroleum Institute (API) 686 Recommended Practice for Machinery Installation and Installation Design, as well as any other referenced specifications from a manufacturer or Client, as required to ensure compliance with the referenced industry practices or Client requirements of API, ANSI, PIP, or other industry specifications for pump, compressor, blower, conveyor, or other machinery installations. Millwrights or Machinists shall understand and utilize Laser Alignment tools provided by RCI for pump/driver alignments and coupling.
Per API 686, or other best practices or specifications, Millwrights or Machinists will assist and monitor other craft activities with respect to rotating equipment installations to ensure the overall quality of the rotating equipment. This shall include the surface preparation of foundations, ensuring proper metallurgy of shims, placement of shims, removal or pumps/motors from baseplates (when required) before placement on foundations, ensuring proper type and installation techniques of grout placement are utilized, manage re-placement of pumps and motors with proper shims, perform pre-alignments, monitor attachment and alignment of pipe to pump nozzles to ensure acceptable load conditions, manage de-coupled motor bumps with electricians, manage shaft rotations and lubrication of pumps/motors as required per original equipment manufacturers (OEM) requirements or special Client requirements, manage interim and final alignment/coupling placements required during the construction installation, etc., generally complying with API 686 or Client specifications for quality installation of all
rotating equipment.
RCI has various levels of Millwright or Machinist positions based on experience and skills ranked as follows:
Millwright Leadman
: NCCER Certified Millwright that has demonstrated competency in rotating equipment installation including grouting, alignment, pipe nozzle connections with load restriction compliance, pump/driver coupling, and in-situ maintenance of the rotating equipment per OEM Manuals or Client Requirements. Direct assistant to Foreman.
Millwright I
: NCCER Certified. Same as "Millwright Leadman" but with 95% ability or greater. Must have 5+ years of industrial machinery experience.
Millwright II
: NCCER Certified. Same as "Millwright Leadman" but with 90% ability or greater. Must have 3 to 5 years of industrial machinery experience.
Millwright III
: Same as "Millwright Leadman" but with 85% competency or greater. Applies to 2nd year apprentice in machinist trades.
Millwright IV
: Same as "Millwright Leadman" but with 80% competency or greater. Applies to 1st year apprentice in machinist trades.
Qualification Highlights:
Must be able to read prints and illustrate thorough knowledge of millwright or machinist procedures and skills
Must have good leadership and communication skills
Must have experience on an industrial construction project
Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site
Position Responsibilities:
Read engineered drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations in space (coordinates), quantities, and sizes of materials required
Identify all tools required for tasks
Identify safety risks and precautions required to eliminate those risks
Read and comprehend rotating equipment OEM manuals and Client specifications for the proper installation of individual pieces of machinery
Ensure the quality installation of rotating equipment per OEM, Client, and specifications provided for each machine of the project or site
Monitor and assist in grouting of rotating equipment to comply with specifications
Monitor installation of valves, hangers, supports, flanges of piping systems attached to rotating equipment to ensure they are according to plans and applicable specifications
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance history experience
Ability to read prints and construction drawings
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, manufacturers manuals, and instructions
Demonstrated knowledge of pipe fitting processes for industrial piping (refineries, chemical plants, etc.) and boiler components for a combined cycle power plant that affect the nozzle load requirements of rotating equipment
Good problem-solving abilities and pipe fitting math skills
Good aptitude and manual dexterity
Good reading comprehension
Ability to work with others - Team player
Ability to work independently - minimal supervision, reliable performer
Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors

Physical Requirements:
Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
Will talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of tools, machinery parts and controls
Able to use arms and hands to signal, grad, hold, turn, and push or pull objects such as materials, controls, and tools
Will be required to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms
Will work at heights up to 300 feet utilizing proper fall protection devices
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short distances, see colors, possess depth perception and peripheral vision
Must be capable or working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs, safety vests, gloves, steel toe/safety toe boots, and masks/respirators
