Role:

We're hiring a Middle/High School

ELA & Social Studies Teacher

to lead engaging, standards-aligned instruction for grades 6-10 (exact load finalized upon hire). You'll teach rigorous lessons, integrate novels and primary sources, and guide cross-curricular, STEAM-infused projects tied to our Miami community (Vizcaya, Barnacle Historic State Park, Coconut Grove Library, etc.).

What you'll do



Teach daily ELA and Social Studies lessons aligned to

Florida B.E.S.T. standards

Use novels and informational texts to build reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills Lead

project-based learning

(PBL/STEAM 4.0) with clear rubrics and checkpoints Differentiate for diverse learners; monitor progress; provide timely, actionable feedback Collaborate on pacing guides, student notebooks, and assessments Communicate with families professionally and proactively; maintain OneDrive lesson uploads Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom culture

What you bring



Bachelor's degree in Education, English, History, or related field

Florida teaching certification

(or eligibility/alternative certification)

preferred

2+ years teaching grades 6-12

preferred

(micro-school or small-group experience a plus) Experience with PBL/STEAM, novel studies, and writing instruction (argument & research) Strong classroom management, data-driven instruction, and tech fluency (Microsoft/OneDrive)

Ability to work on-site in Coconut Grove, FL Pass level-2 background screening/fingerprinting per school policy U.S. work authorization

Duties



Implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and promote literacy education. Utilize various teaching methods, including instructional design and learning technology, to accommodate diverse learning styles. Mentor students in their academic pursuits, providing guidance in areas such as creative writing, journalism, and mathematics. Manage classroom behavior effectively, ensuring a positive and productive learning atmosphere. Conduct assessments and standardized testing to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. Provide tutoring support for students needing additional assistance in specific subjects or skills. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and share best practices in education administration. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's progress.

Skills



Strong writing skills with proficiency in AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, and copy editing. Classroom experience with a focus on higher education teaching methodologies. Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and staff. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a structured classroom environment. Knowledge of special education practices and behavior management techniques is preferred. Familiarity with library services and research methodologies to enhance student learning experiences. Background in mentoring or academic advising to support student development.
