8th Grade Social Studies Teacher
with a strong focus on
Civics and U.S. Government
to join its middle school team for the 2025 school year.
The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for history, government, and civic engagement--helping students understand the roots of democracy, the structure of government, and the importance of active citizenship. This role offers the opportunity to inspire critical thinking and civic responsibility in a supportive, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in U.S. History, Civics, and Government that build students' knowledge of democracy, rights, and responsibilities.
Foster classroom discussions that encourage inquiry, debate, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Integrate current events, primary sources, and project-based learning to make social studies relevant and meaningful.
Use assessment data to monitor student understanding and adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including English Language Arts and Special Education teachers, to support literacy and critical thinking across subjects.
Encourage civic participation through classroom simulations (mock elections, debates, etc.), community projects, and service learning.
Maintain open, consistent communication with families, colleagues, and school leadership regarding student growth and engagement.
Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school's culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Political Science, Social Studies, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Certification:
Valid teaching certification in Social Studies or eligibility to obtain certification.
SPED certification or willingness to take the SPED Praxis preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience, ideally at the middle school level.
Experience creating inquiry-based, student-centered lessons in history, government, or civics.
Skills:
Strong understanding of U.S. history, government, and civic education standards.
Ability to make complex social and political concepts accessible to middle school learners.
Excellent classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
A deep belief in developing informed, responsible, and compassionate citizens.
