Role Overview
The Upper Academy Science Teacher commits to teaching and leading Momentum's mission, instructional vision, and excellence for our scholars with special needs. The Upper Academy Science Teacher will work collaboratively with the Principal to internalize science lessons from Wash U's interactive MySci science curriculum, collaborate with special education and EL teachers to provide appropriate accommodations for scholars, and support the daily instructional and technical operations of the classroom.
Essential Responsibilities
Demonstrate high expectations for the achievement and development of all students and teachers and foster a safe, joyful, and nurturing learning environment in which students and teachers can thrive with a particular emphasis on loving words and loving actions.
Ensure high academic standards are set for and met by all students
Collaborate with co-teachers to provide rigorous, standards-based learning to students
Execute rigorous, small-group instruction based on individual needs of students
Differentiate curriculum and instruction to meet needs of students
Use student performance data derived from teacher-created and standardized assessments to drive instructional decision-making
Internalize and implement high quality lessons that effectively describe student strengths and needs with clear learning goals and performance criteria
Play a significant role on an entrepreneurial team to establish policies and procedures, use best-practice instructional strategies
Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, text books, etc.
Support the success of all Momentum Schools; sharing best practices with other school leaders and providing input to improve regional and school teams
Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
Missouri Teaching Certification preferred (Science Grades 5-9)
Qualifications
2-4 years of teaching experience (experience working with students and families in urban communities is a plus)
Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Experience working with a diverse group (various range of academics and behaviors)
Ability to multitask
Experience building student and classroom schedules
Ability to take charge of paraprofessionals, provide materials and support as needed
Strong classroom/behavior management and organizational skills
Restraint trained or willing to be trained
Able to communicate with families in a variety of ways, on a regular basis, regarding progress, behavior, etc.
Able to communicate with classroom teachers on how to best support their scholars when pushing into the classroom
Compensation
The annualized salary for this position begins at $43,680 and increases based on years of experience, certification(s), and highest level of education.
Schedule & Work Environment
7:30-4 PM, Momentum Academy: Tower Grove South campus
