Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

Organizes and performs the daily activities for the Microbiology department. Ensures that performing the daily activities and the validity of test results and quality control are completed for the specific section to which he/she is assigned.

1. Accurately performs proficiency testing when scheduled

2. Alerts the Laboratory manager or Director concerning personnel issues {i.e., scheduling conflicts, retraining, corrective action, etc.}

3. Assumes responsibility for problem solving of technical problems when appropriate.

4. Daily quality control properly performed and logged, works within quality control limits and trends, and follows proper department procedure for correcting quality control limits and trends.

5. Demonstrates an understanding of, and adherence to the Code of Conduct

6. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and uses the system to report potential safety issues.

7. Follows department SOPs

8. Effectively organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area{s}.

9. Effectively troubleshoots/resolves instrument problems and documents corrective action in appropriate log; when necessary, performs instrumentation repairs under the direction of hotline assistance.

10. Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation in assigned area{s}.

11. Preventative maintenance and safety checks of equipment are performed according to schedule and then documented.

12. Recognizes and resolves unusual or critical values before reporting. Follows proper departmental procedures for documentation.

13. Works effectively with students as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Licensure/ Certification/ Registration: ASCP Certified or registry eligible, by providing documentation of certification within 3 months of hire date.

Education: Bachelor\'s degree in medical technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist, Microbiology or related sciences within 3 months of hire.
