THE POSITION

Safeguarding public health from infectious agents and the diseases that threatens the well-being of communities is a key mission for this public health laboratory position. The Department of Health, Bureau of Laboratories play a critical role in the prevention and control of public health agents in Pennsylvania.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a public health supervisor, Microbiologist 3, you will lead a team of microbiologists in the advanced molecular detection methods which provides valuable surveillance results to public health programs across the state, which includes laboratory methods for sequencing: nucleic acid extraction and amplification, library prep and data workflows. This position provides technical assistance and services to public health partners and clinical microbiology laboratories throughout the state.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, with 1-hour lunch. Emergency public health could require working off hours such as weekends or holidays
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to one (1) day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Exton.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Microbiologist 2; or
  • Two years of professional laboratory work experience in microbiology, and a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree that includes 20 credits of microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology or bacteriology and 12 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
  • One year of professional laboratory work experience in microbiology, and a graduate degree in microbiology.
Other Requirements:
  • This position requires a valid Class C driver\'s license.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
