In the role of the UNIX Operations Manager you would be responsible for managing a team of skilled Sr. Level UNIX Administrators in identifying, implementing and supporting a large UNIX infrastructure in an optimal way utilizing tools to reduce labor effort. This individual has the responsibility and accountability for planning, operational support and delivery of UNIX technologies for the Enterprise.

This position provides technical leadership across the organization for UNIX technologies to meet the growing business requirements, audit and regulatory requirements, project planning and strategic decision making. The candidate should have experience leading, assignment and setting team goals for and making assignments to achieve those goals.

Job Responsibilities

• 40% Managing Operational initiatives and Hands On Technical Work

• 10% Project Planning for technology deployment
• 10% Equipment Purchasing, Vendor Mgmt.

Primary Responsibilities

• Management of UNIX operating system team
• Manage and update reference architecture and implementation standards and documentation.
• Develop and manage vendor relationships for product roadmaps, emerging server technologies.
• Provide supporting definitions for budgetary input and lifecycle planning, resource planning/allocation, and project management oversight
• Provide leadership and guidance in managing and coordinating the introduction of new/updates to server systems, technologies, and associated operating system and database configurations
• Strategically design, document, plan and implement virtual and consolidated infrastructure components and assure their high availability.
• Ensures capacity planning, reporting and health analysis for the virtual and components are in place and actions taken to accommodate.
• Collaborate closely with peers in other parts of the organization to ensure the virtual and infrastructure is strategically positioned within the enterprise (i.e. Systems Management, Hardware, Asset Management etc.)
• Drive and advise on strategies, implementation, and management of OnPrem and Cloud / Private Cloud hosting services
• Assists the UNIX Director in the development of the financial budget(s) to account for infrastructure to support the environment
• Enable and champion an IT service culture. Champion and promote service improvements on an ongoing basis to ensure quality and business partner satisfaction
• Ensure team members are adequately trained on the technology and operational processes required to support business applications
• Ensure Regulatory and Audit compliance.

Required Skills and Education

• Experience in UNIX systems administration with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Solaris, 10+ years
• 5 years leading teams
• Understanding of Cloud computing concepts, experience with AWS is preferred.
• Experience with configuration management tools and concepts. eg. Puppet, Ansible
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Team or project leadership experience in a technical support function
