The Mental Health Worker is responsible for working with patients, both individually and in groups, to support and assist with the patient's inpatient care. Mental Health Workers help patients address a myriad of issues that include, but are not limited to, stress management, problems with self-esteem, issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approach conflict in a constructive manner. Help to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in the resolution.
Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Trinity Health, Ann Arbor. Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
Maintain knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assume responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
Demonstrate self-directed learning and participate in ongoing professional development and complete all required competencies to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills.

Provide quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
Identify and assist in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.
Encourage patients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
Guide patients in the development of coping skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
Complete patient-related documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy, in a timely manner, and with content that is focused on relevant issues.
Support patients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
Collect information about patients through interviews, observation, and tests.
Collaborate with other staff members in the multidisciplinary team to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
Evaluate patients' physical or mental condition based on review of client information and convey information to nurse and multidisciplinary team as needed.
