Performs nursing care responsibilities with supervision to ensure safe and consistent patient quality care. .Performs all duties and tasks of a Mental Health Tech along with the additional duties listed below
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum of 18 months experience working as a mental health technician or equivalent position at the Brattleboro Retreat or an equivalent hospital inpatient organization.
2. Completed Behavioral Health Academy or an equivalent combination of education and experience to equal an additional one year.
3. Bachelor's degree in human services degree preferred.
4. During employment at the Retreat, has continually exhibited initiative in milieu management, exemplary communication with peers and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Working knowledge of theoretical models of therapeutic care.
2. Training in CPI and CPR required, Brattleboro Retreat will provide.
3. Has interpersonal flexibility.
4. Ability to multitask.
5. Demonstrates emotional intelligence.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functional Patient Care Job Tasks
Leads and coaches the MHT unit team in standard job tasks.
Develops assignment sheet at the start of each shift keeping in mind the strengths and weaknesses of each team member. Ensure that each team member has completed all educational requirements for their assigned job task-e.g., Courtyard Safety Monitor, Early Responder, etc.
In partnership with Charge RN, provides milieu leadership--e.g. provides input on patient room changes, helps staff to know and follow unit rules consistently, anticipates issues and provides proactive solutions.
Oversees completion of all unit safety tasks throughout the shift including environmentals, off-unit patient lists, sharps counts, etc.
Demonstrates a basic understanding of groups. Leads and facilitates others to lead groups.
Demonstrates an understanding of the CPI verbal de-escalation continuum model and utilizes those skills consistently.
Functions as the lead during behavioral emergencies/Code Greens.
Must be able to perform CPI and CPR as needed.

Provides leadership for MHT's to ensure follow-through of treatment plans and maintenance of a safe

Optimizes staff strengths/weaknesses in assignment, considering the broader clinical picture of patients
and their needs. Helps optimize the function of their shift.
Provides education to others, both formally and informally.
Recommend staff, based upon assessed need, to attend code drills (green, yellow, blue, black, etc.) for further skill development and facilitates their attendance while on shift.
Oversees unit-based orientation and mentorship of new staff and provides input on performance to management.
Engagement/Learning/Growth
Participates in hospital wide committees.
Assists Clinical Education in the development and teaching of educational courses specific to your skill set and/or departmental specialty on an as needed basis.
Demonstrates continued learning and professional development in designated field by attending in-services and/or other training that addresses the ages and developmental level of the patient population you serve.
