This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 525 Layfette Street, Georgetown, SC.

This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.



As a Mental Health Professional, working under general supervision, will serve the Highway to Hope Program in Georgetown County. Will provide therapeutic services, counseling and case management dealing with situations encompassing interpersonal, health and psychosocial factors to adults, but is available to serve all clients of Waccamaw Center for Mental Health.

Responsibilities of the Mental Health Professional include

Provide therapy, emergency services and case management services to adults experiencing emotional disturbances, to include assessments, crisis intervention, individual, group and family therapy, patient and family education. These services will be provided in the patients living in the most rural communities in our catchment area. Represent Waccamaw Center of Mental Health and Office of Mental Health and other community forums to plan and develop programs to improve the quality of life for psychiatrically disabled patients. This position operates a state vehicle to provide outreach and other clinical services including allowing patients to see a psychiatrist via telehealth services. Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards. A variety of coordination and consultation services with local community agencies and organizations, other human service providers, and OMH staff to assist clients in maximizing recovery efforts.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social services.

Additional Requirements

Be able to meet OMH credentialing requirements which include graduate course work including Psychopathology/Psychopathology Diagnostics/Clinical Assessment-Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) and Medical Ethics. Must be able to show evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience maybe documented as a practicum, internship orpost-graduate clinical experience. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights stairs.

Preferred Qualifications

License preferred with post-Masters experience in a clinical setting. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws or regulations pertaining to social services programs, including services from the community and other public and private programs.

Post Hire, Employee Must:

Be able to provide 10-year DMV driving record. Be able to use a state vehicle for work related purposes. Use clinical judgement while working independently. Be able to organize and maintain a caseload. Participate in on-going in-service training and other educational opportunities in order to maintain and/or acquire necessary skills.
