SEIU Local 1000, is a progressive public sector labor union, representing approximately
96,000 California state employees in ten different bargaining units. Represented
employees include professionals, educators, nurses, administrative and support
employees. We have approximately 150 employees who work in six offices throughout
the state. Our mission is to engage, mobilize, and represent our members to effect social
and economic change for all.

Local 1000 is seeking applicants for a management position as a Member Strength
Director. This position is based in California in our Member Strength Department and is
responsible for all aspects of our Member Strength program. The Member Strength
Director is a high profile role within Local 1000 and reports directly to our Executive
Director.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both external and internal
organizing. They will have developed and maintained large training programs that
provide tools and activities, across different formats, to enhance member mobilization,
worksite organization, and understanding of a wide range of topics. They will be able to
provide oversight and record keeping experience to monitor the effectiveness of
programs. They will have experience in, contract campaigns, strike vote prep, ratification
campaigns, mobilization of workers across wide and varied bargaining units, and member
leader development with a diverse group of individuals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
\xef\x82\xb7 Mobilize a huge army of workers across the state of California to create an active,
educated grassroots membership structure.
\xef\x82\xb7 Connect the concepts and theories of the training content to the real work and
mission of the organization.
\xef\x82\xb7 Serve as the mobilization advisor to elected leaders and staff.
\xef\x82\xb7 Lead in the development of the training programs focused on member leader
development and participation.
\xef\x82\xb7 Lead in the development of content and graphic design of program materials.
\xef\x82\xb7 Supervise staff to maintain both classroom and web-based training with a course
catalog, skills tracking, testing and evaluation.
\xef\x82\xb7 Create and facilitate trainings including worksite mobilization, recruitment,
contract campaign mobilization, etc.
\xef\x82\xb7 Train members, leaders, and staff to present content to others (Train-the-Trainer).
\xef\x82\xb7 Identify and coordinate outside training and educational materials and resources
as needed.
\xef\x82\xb7 Develop web-based and internet applications using Skillsoft and/or other
publishing tools.
\xef\x82\xb7 Supervise Member Strength Manager and any other staff in the Member Strength
Department.

\xef\x82\xb7 Write and present summary reports of progress to Executive Director.
\xef\x82\xb7 Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:
\xef\x82\xb7 Minimum 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of labor organizing.
\xef\x82\xb7 Minimum 5 years supervisory experience required.
\xef\x82\xb7 Advanced project management skills with the ability to lead multiple complex
contract campaigns, strike prep, and other major projects.
\xef\x82\xb7 Proficiency in understanding and analyzing information and terminology for
inclusion in training materials (webinars; Zoom meetings; purple texting, virtual
learning modules, etc.).
\xef\x82\xb7 Ability to assess the quality and applicability of training materials.
\xef\x82\xb7 Demonstrated understanding of needs assessment and skills tracking.
\xef\x82\xb7 Proficiency in understanding computer applications including Microsoft Office,
web-based publishing tools, web conferencing and collaboration software.
\xef\x82\xb7 Proficiency in understanding internet and smart phone technology and
applications.
\xef\x82\xb7 Superior interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and presentation skills.
\xef\x82\xb7 Conversant in the role of the union movement and the goals of Local 1000.
\xef\x82\xb7 Ability to manage competing deadlines.
\xef\x82\xb7 Occasional overnight travel required.
\xef\x82\xb7 Valid driver\'s license, car and insurance.

Salary Ranging from $7,916 to $13,170 monthly
