What you will be doing:
This On-Call Medicolegal Investigator 2 position will support the State Medical Examiner by investigating unexplained, unattended, and unexpected deaths and determining jurisdiction. Conduct death scene investigations to assist in determining the cause and manner of death. These duties will be performed on an on-call basis to assist with investigative caseloads.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located at the State Medical Examiner\'s Office, 5455 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Anchorage. Most work is performed at the office, but a portion of the work is performed in the field in the Anchorage Municipality and Matanuska Susitna Borough.

Special Notice:
The work environment may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous conditions and substances, and noxious odors. The work requires the physical ability to lift and maneuver up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistive devices. The incumbents regularly operate motor vehicles. Applicants must be 18 years or older and possess a valid Drivers License. Incumbents will be required to work irregular hours, including holidays and weekends, and may be assigned to available shifts, including days, swings, and graveyards.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of professional experience as a Medicolegal Investigator 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

OR

Three years of any combination of post-secondary education course work such as chemistry, human anatomy, medical terminology, physical, biological, or natural sciences, or criminal justice from an accredited college (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or practical experience such as conducting on scene death investigations; law enforcement work; conducting non-police investigations; responding on scene as an emergency medical technician; working in a funeral home; working in a medical setting that included direct patient contact and evaluation; or in a medical examiner\'s or coroners\' office with practical on-the-job experience that included identifying traumas and manners of death.

Substitutions:
Advanced Certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators will substitute for two years of the required education/experience.

Basic Certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators will substitute for one year of required education/experience.

Special Note:
The work environment or work may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous conditions and substances, and noxious odors. The work requires the physical ability to lift and maneuver up to 300 pounds with mechanical assistive devices.

Successful applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes, as a prerequisite to employment.

This class requires that incumbents occasionally operate motor vehicles and possess a valid Alaska driver\'s license.

Incumbents may be required to serve on a rotating, 24-hour on-call schedule.
