Hampton Roads Cardiology (HRC) is currently looking for students who are hoping to pursue a career in medicine or seeking employment in today's health care by gaining the hands-on experience needed to excel by working as a paraprofessional medical scribe. We are in need of one full-time or part-time (flexible hours) medical scribe.
Our office hours are 9-5 pm, Monday-Friday. HRC is located at the North Campus Entrance of the Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.
The cardiologist offers an educational opportunity for students to observe, participate, and contribute in learning and documenting physician-patient interactions. The right candidate will work closely at hand with Dr. Ridley documenting and obtaining the vocabulary, anatomy, and medical terminology needed to thrive in today's healthcare.
All who are willing and ready to learn as well as gain these hands on experiences should apply. Prior experience is preferred BUT not required as we are willing to work with and train the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Accurately transcribe physician-patient interactions during examinations and procedures. Document medical histories, physical exams, and treatment plans in real-time using electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems. Ensure that all medical documentation adheres to legal and ethical standards. Maintain organized medical records, including lab results, imaging reports, and other pertinent information. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care by providing timely updates on patient status. Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to facilitate accurate documentation. Assist in the management of patient flow within the office setting.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment is preferred. Students pursuing a health provider degree in the future (physician/PA/NP) Proficiency in transcription with strong typing skills to ensure accurate documentation. Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems is essential for efficient record-keeping. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to support effective communication with healthcare providers. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records. Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
