Why does the job exist?



The Medical Records Coder will:



Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for medical coding within the Medical Assistance Division (MAD);



Ensure the accurate application of coding standards and principles;



Work collaboratively with PPB and other internal bureaus.



How does it get done?



The Medical Records Coder is responsible for:



Serving as a point of contact for coding questions within the division;



Implementing programs and services by applying correct and compliant medical codes to facilitate proper reimbursement processes;



Working with program managers and other relevant bureaus;



Ensuring accuracy, consistency and adherence to regulatory and policy guidelines across all coding and claims activities.

Minimum Qualification



High School Diploma or equivalency and one (1) year of recent coding experience working in a hospital setting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must have completion of an AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) approved coding certificate RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, or have completion of an AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) approved coding certificate, CPC, or CIC.

Employment Requirements



Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.



Must obtain and maintain a Defensive Driving certification.

Working Conditions



Work is performed in a hospital setting, long hours of sitting, typing and computer work are required.
