The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for overseeing the information that makes up a patient's health record or file to ensure files are accessible and available to clinical staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares charts for designated practice location and chart requests, which includes printing schedules, pulling, and preparing 200+ charts daily in advance according to department protocol.
Files charts back appropriately and searches for missing charts.
Communicates chart needs and situations to staff at remote locations in a timely manner.
Gathers and scans paper documents into electronic health records daily per department protocol.
Responds to physician offices, attorney offices and patients requests via phone or in person in a prompt and polite manner.
Assists with the organization of inactive medical records to include moving records to storage, catalogs records and creates the manifest, and retrieves records from storage as needed.
Assists site supervisor in preparation of medical records as needed.
Sorts incoming faxes and mails to appropriate staff.
Must comply with all HIPPA and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
At least one year previous experienced preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication skills verbal and written.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

High ethical standards and integrity.
Strong organization skills with attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
Proficient in Microsoft office products.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Full-time position with a work schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Position operates in a professional office environment requiring minimal physical activity.

The ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear.

The ability to occasionally bend, stretch, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds daily. Pulls and files 150-250+ charts daily.
Manual dexterity for operating complicated equipment
