The Insurance Specialist is accountable for posting insurance payments and ensuring that maximum reimbursement is received for services rendered. This position reconciles daily receipts and provides reports to the manager. The specialist assists with front office responsibilities including but not limited to incoming telephone calls, answering billing related questions for patients and insurance companies, collection of outstanding balances, assisting with incoming and outgoing fax documents, and filing explanation of benefits and documents for patient medical records.
Expertise in managed care and familiarity with medical coding and terminology are important skill sets for this position.
Previous experience with Oklahoma Medicaid and the managed care plans associated with the Medicaid program is important.
The Insurance Specialist will communicate and collaborate with other staff and physicians regarding billing/coding processes and ensure that there is accurate processing of claims and maximum reimbursement. Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA regulations is required.
The specialist must provide exceptional customer service in all aspects of interaction with patients and their families and work in a team environment with other administrative, clinical, and medical staff to ensure a positive patient experience.
Basic qualifications
Experience in a medical office setting with a strong understanding of medical terminology.
Proficiency in insurance payment processing and thorough in follow-up of unpaid claims.
Preferred qualifications
Familiarity with managed care systems and practices.
Previous experience in a pediatric medical office.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
