The

Department of the Medical Examiner

(MED) is seeking a

Records Technician II

to supervise the day-to-day activities involving the review, transcription, compilation and maintenance of autopsy and auxiliary medical/investigative reports and records.



What You'll Do

Plan, organize, train, and supervise the daily operations of autopsy and auxiliary medical and investigative reports and records. Serve as a working supervisor performing technical and administrative duties alongside staff, including preparing and reviewing reports, maintaining investigative and medical records, and assisting with case documentation and related tasks. Provide oversight and guidance to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with departmental standards. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Special Work Requirements

In the event of a mass disaster or mass fatality incident, position may be required to perform as a Disaster Response Worker.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT



Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT



One year of work experience equivalent to the next lower level (Medical Examiner's Records Technician I), including or supplemented by work experience demonstrating aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.



Experience equivalent to the next lower level (Medical Examiner's Records Technician I) involves independently performing specialized clerical and technical medical records work to include: transcribing and reviewing autopsy reports for accuracy and completeness; compiling and integrating laboratory and investigative reports into official case files; preparing, finalizing, and distributing autopsy and investigative reports in compliance with legal requirements; maintaining and updating records, cross-index, and statistical data systems; preparing statistical and informational reports; responding to inquiries and releasing information and records to authorized individuals, agencies, and the public in accordance with established policies; and providing overall general clerical and transcription support to pathologists and departmental staff.



Typing Proficiency:

This class of work requires you to type at 40 or more net words per minute. Your proficiency may be evaluated by the appointing authority as part of the selection/interview process and/or during your probationary period. Failure to meet the proficiency requirement may result in removal from the eligible list and/or termination from appointment.
