This is a part-time position under the supervision of the President/CEO. The Medical Director oversees the access, administration, delivery and quality of psychopharmacology services provided by the psychiatrists, advance practice providers and nurses. The Medical Director provides guidance, direction and support to the South Community Inc. staff, especially in regards to the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of individuals experiencing mental illness and/or substance use. The Medical Director supervises South Community's psychiatrists and advance practice providers to include Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supports the mission of South Community to deliver the best mental health and substance use services to its patients.
2. Provides psychiatric services by means of evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring to those South Community patients directly assigned to the Medical Director's care via on site or telehealth.
3. Provides or arranges for cross-coverage of South Community patients in the absence of their regular staff psychiatrists or advance practice providers.
4. Provides or arranges telephonic psychiatric consultation to South Community's after-hours service.
5. Provides consultation to staff psychiatrists, advance practice providers, and nurses who encounter concerns regarding diagnosis or treatment of South Community patients.
6. Provides or arranges for supervision and monitoring of psychiatric residents, medical students and advance practice students who are participating in clinical rotations or clerkships at South Community.
7. Supervises and annually evaluates the agency's psychiatrists and advance practice providers.
8. Meets on a regular basis with Integrated Medical Services Program Director.
9. Maintains a certification with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy allowing South Community to collect, to store, to distribute, to administer and to destroy sample medications and central pharmacy medications.
10. Chairs a monthly Medical Staff Meeting.
11. Provides consultation upon request to South Community clinical staff in regards to diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of SCI clients.
12. Ensures that services are consistent with: standards in the field and clinical research, ethical and procedural standards, best practice guidelines and within clinicians' scope of practice.
13. Collaborates with the President/CEO, Executive Council and Program Directors to implement changes aimed at improving patient care.
14. Collaborates with Administrative Staff in the recruitment, retention and enrichment of the agency's nursing and psychiatric staff.
15. Maintains good standing with the Ohio State Medical Board and monitors that similar standing is kept by the other South Community psychiatrists with the Ohio State Medical Board.
16. Serves on the Executive Committee.
