Responsibilities

Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. Review medical documentation to assign appropriate billing codes, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes, for procedures and diagnoses. Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to billing to prevent claim denials. Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through effective medical collection processes, including resubmissions and appeals. Maintain detailed and organized medical records, ensuring all billing information aligns with medical records and coding standards. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies for accurate billing. Stay current with evolving coding guidelines, insurance policies, and compliance regulations related to medical billing and coding. Generate reports on billing activities, outstanding accounts receivable, and collection efforts to support financial analysis. Ensure adherence to privacy laws such as HIPAA by handling all patient information confidentially and securely.

Skills

Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation. Proficiency in medical coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, DRG classifications, and familiarity with EMR/EHR systems. Experience in medical billing processes from claim submission to payment posting. Excellent understanding of insurance protocols, including verification procedures and claims follow-up. Skilled in medical collection techniques with a focus on resolving claim denials efficiently. Ability to navigate complex medical records while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Familiarity with healthcare regulations related to billing practices and patient confidentiality. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under deadlines.
