Medical Biller / Medical Assistant
. This
hybrid role
involves ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of medical billing and insurance claims and bookkeeping, while also assisting with patient care. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, demonstrates high level of accuracy and meticulousness, has a detail-oriented mindset, possesses excellent communication and organizational skills, and adept at multitasking. Proficiency in computer operations and basic math is essential. Please note that this opportunity is not available as a summer internship or short-term role. We are looking for individuals interested in making a long-term commitment to our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Medical Billing Specialist:
Verify and process insurance claims with precision and timeliness.
Following up on claims, submitting appeals based on payer rejections and denials, and claim reconciliation.
Bookkeeping and data entry following claim processing.
Reconciliation of bank statements.
Communicate with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing issues.
Handle prior authorizations for visits, procedures and medications.
Timely follow-up on accounts receivables and aging accounts, and patient statements.
Ensure accurate coding (ICD-10, CPT) and maintain compliance with insurance policies, billing regulations, and HIPAA standards.
Medical Assistant:
Assisting with patient check-in and check-out procedures, including form collection, payment processing, insurance checks, and appointment scheduling.
Handling phone calls and managing appointment rescheduling and reminders.
Triaging and responding to patient and pharmacy messages.
Coordinating and assisting with scheduling surgeries and postoperative visits.
Recording comprehensive ocular and systemic history.
Performing and documenting various Ophthalmology exams such as visual acuity, pupil examination, tonometry and imaging tests such as OCT, fundus photography, and Humphrey visual field.
Assisting with in-office procedures, ensuring proper consent and handling setup/cleanup.
Managing the opening and closing of exam rooms, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the day.
Participating in the training of other medical assistants.
Ensuring compliance with practice procedures, state and federal regulations, and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Upholding a positive attitude through teamwork, self-motivation, honesty, and professionalism.
Treating patients with respect and patience.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), billing software and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with clearinghouse and insurance provider portals, ICD-10 and CPT coding, and insurance claim processes.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Preferred:
Medical Billing/Collections or Bookkeeping experience for 1-2 years in a healthcare setting.
Experience using EPIC EMR / billing platform and Office Ally clearinghouse.
Certification as a Billing and Coding Specialist.
Language:
