Job Description

This requires translating patient records into codes using systems like ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS; reviewing claims for accuracy; and following up on denied claims and unpaid bills. The role is primarily an office-based, computer-heavy position that requires strong knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes. Key responsibilities

Coding:

Review patient records and clinical notes to accurately assign alphanumeric codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using systems like ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.

Billing:

Create and submit claims to insurance companies and patients for payment, including sending out invoices for any remaining balances.

Payment processing:

Post payments from insurance companies and patients to the correct accounts, and manage payment plans for patients with outstanding balances.

Claim resolution:

Investigate and resolve issues with denied insurance claims by correcting codes and resubmitting claims.

Communication:

Work with healthcare providers to clarify patient information for accurate coding, and communicate with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing questions and inquiries.

Reporting:

Generate reports on billing and coding performance and provide updates on trends or issues to management.
Required skills and qualifications

Coding knowledge:

Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) and medical terminology.

Technical skills:

Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical billing software, and other computer programs.

Attention to detail:

Ability to spot inconsistencies in medical records and ensure accuracy in coding and billing.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

Use critical thinking to find errors, understand claims, and navigate complex data.

Communication skills:

Effectively communicate with patients, providers, and insurance agents.

Knowledge of regulations:

Understanding of healthcare compliance and regulations, such as HIPAA.

Other skills:

Strong organizational skills, data analysis, and basic math skills are also valuable.

Certification:

While not always required, a certification like Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the AAPC can make a candidate more competitive.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
