JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant (MA)
FLSA STATUS (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Non-Exempt
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to RN/Office Manager /Physician
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: NONE

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES


Responsible for assisting the providers with patient care. This individual acts as the coordinator of care for patients before, during and after office visits and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider. Collects and shares pertinent information with the provider Receives and acts on directives from provider Responsible for preparing patient for visit with provider. This may include, but is not limited to: rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, collecting urine drug screens, pulling up diagnostic imaging, procedure set-up, injection prep and accurate data entry into EMR. Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during clinic and at the end of the day. Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace as needed. Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms. Retrieves and responds to voicemails withing 48 business hours and documents actions into EMR. Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits prior to date of service. Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR. Scans Clinical documents into EMR Prints clinic schedules in the morning of date of service. Ensures patient received education as indicated by provider. Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner. Maintains universal precautions in daily job duties Assists the procedural team during procedures as assigned by the RN or physician. Hands instruments and supplies to the physician and performs other tasks as directed. Assists the procedural team in maintaining safety through monitoring sterile technique during draping as well as throughout the surgical procedure. Responsible for sterilization of equipment and supplies. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position in medical offices. Patient care duties, including ability to provide for patient care in emergency situations and based upon age-specific needs utilizing a development perspective. Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments in order to cover patient needs.

EDUCATION


Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.

EXPERIENCE


Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE


Knowledge of the health care field. Knowledge of EMR computer charting and is proficient with documentation. Knowledge of pain management/medical/surgical best practices. Knowledge of medical offices policies and procedures.

SKILLS


Skill in starting 3 and 12 lead EKGs, vital signs monitoring, collection of urine samples, collection of blood glucose samples. Understands the importance of reporting objective and subjective data to Registered Nurse or Physician Skill in Clinical equipment operation used for patient care, i.e., patient monitoring equipment, wheelchairs, and office equipment: computer, copy machine, and fax machine.

Ability to interact with management, physicians, and teammates at all levels and effectively Ability to Communicate with teammates and management both in oral and written form. Ability to work in an environment that frequently produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue. Ability to be comfortable performing multiple projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities and Ability to utilize time effectively and self-directed.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS


Indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS


Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. * Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Possession of fine sensory and motor skills.
