Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports the delivery of high-quality cardiovascular care by providing clinical and administrative support to physicians and other healthcare professionals. This role involves direct patient interaction, preparation of patients for exams and procedures, accurate documentation, and assistance in ensuring smooth clinic operations. The MA must demonstrate strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient confidentiality and safety. This position requires the ability to work efficiently in a high-paced environment, managing multiple tasks while maintaining a focus on quality patient care. Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
Accurately measure and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, height, and weight).
Review and document patients' medical, surgical, and social histories to maintain accurate and up to date charts.
Document patient allergies and contraindications.
Obtain and record current medications from patients.
Process prescription refill requests per established protocols, and communicate with pharmacies as needed.
Perform and document electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures.
Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures, ensuring proper patient positioning and comfort.
Maintain clean and sterile exam rooms, including sterilization of instruments per infection control protocols.
Administer medications as directed by the physician (if certified).
Ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
Administrative/Other Duties:
Track and maintain clinical supplies and notify supervisor(s) of inventory needs.
Support patient flow and maintain timely communication between patients and providers.
Participate in team meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Education and Certification
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited medical Assistant program required.
Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, etc.) preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical setting preferred, ideally in cardiology or a specialty practice.
Experience performing EKGs and working with electronic medical records (EMR), Epic strongly preferred.
Equipment & Technology Requirements
Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (e.g. Epic, Athenahealth, etc.)
Proficiency with basic office and medical equipment, including blood pressure monitors, EKG machines, and thermometers.
Ability to use tablets, printers, and communication tools such as email and secure messaging platforms.
