Two full-time positions available with the Health Department, Sexual Health Clinic Division located at 2400 Troost Avenue
Salary Range: $17.35-$26.47/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities




  • Takes sexual health medical histories and explains treatment procedures to patients, prepares patients for examinations, and assists the Nurse/Clinician during examinations.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, and performs basic laboratory procedures, such as such as gram stain, RPR, culture plating, wet prep.
  • Sterilizes instruments, performs a variety of laboratory specimen collection procedures as required (venipuncture, finger sticks, etc.) and conducts routine laboratory work on collected specimens.
  • Prepares laboratory specimens for transport to reference laboratory and returns related reports.
  • Contacts patients regarding abnormal or irregular laboratory results and instructs patients about medication and special instructions.
  • Prepares and administers medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections\xe2\x80\x94including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a Physician/Clinician or Registered Nurse, transmits prescription refills as directed, and performs phlebotomy.
  • Performs administrative duties that include using computer applications, answering telephones, welcomes patients, updates and files patient medical records, codes and fills patient out forms, schedules appointments, and conducts appointment reminders.
  • Assists with laboratory services and handling correspondences.
  • Performs training and orientation for students of phlebotomy during their medical assistant internship with the Division.
  • Performs training and orientation of phlebotomy for Disease Intervention Staff and new clinical staff.
  • Orders stock items for the clinics, stocks examination rooms as needed, cleans, sanitizes and prepares exam rooms before and following examinations, and cleans examination rooms at the end of the clinic day.
  • Communicates eligibility criterias, and any applicable laws or regulations affecting delivery of services provided by the Department.
  • Refers significant technical medical questions and data to Public Health Nurse Supervisor.
  • Assists the nursing supervisor with stock medications as needed.
  • Completes Gen Probe report at the end of the morning clinic and afternoon STD clinic day and document.
  • Performs duties to prepare and close daily clinic operations.
  • Assists nursing staff/supervisor with all other duties as assigned by nursing supervisor.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in clinical laboratory work.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of anatomy and physiology, especially with some exposure to reproductive health systems.
  • Demonstrates the ability to relating warmly and effectively to the clinic patients.
  • Demonstrates the ability to following instructions, making accurate observations, and relating well to the patients during their visit to the clinic as well as establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the other employees.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of providing non-biased, non-judgmental and gender affirming care.


Qualifications





REQUIRES high school graduation and 1 year of experience in a clinical health setting performing medical assistant duties; OR completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.
