The Medical Assistant supports the healthcare team by performing both clinical and administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient patient care. Under the direction of the physician, advanced practice provider, or clinic manager, the Medical Assistant helps deliver timely, quality service to patients and assists with the operational workflow of the practice.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; obtain patient history including chief complaint, allergies, medications, etc.
Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height/weight) and document appropriately. Prepare examination rooms, ensure proper cleanliness and stocking of supplies.
Assist the provider during examinations and minor procedures as required. Collect specimens (blood draws, urine, etc.) and handle laboratory processing or send-outs per clinic policy.
Administer medications, injections or vaccines if permitted under state law and under supervision. (In Connecticut, specially trained medical assistants may administer vaccines under physician/advanced practice RN supervision
Administrative Duties
+ Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, verify patient information, check-in/outpatients.
+ Maintain patient records, input data into the electronic health record (EHR), manage referrals and follow-ups.
Assist with billing, insurance coding, and insurance verification tasks as needed.
+ Order and maintain medical and office supplies, ensure equipment is functional and rooms are stocked.### +
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of a medical assistant certificate or diploma program preferred. In Connecticut, certification is
not legally required
, but many employers prefer or require certification (such as CMA, CCMA, RMA).

Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification may be required.

Strong communication skills, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), scheduling software and other healthcare technologies preferred.

Ability to work under direction of physicians/clinical staff, follow protocols, maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA).

Some positions may require prior experience (especially in specialty practices) or knowledge of medical terminology and clinic operations.
