The

Mechanical Systems Operator

is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining a variety of mechanical and utility systems supporting mission critical government facilities. The position ensures safe, efficient, and continuous operation of mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC, boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, and other facility support systems.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



Operate, monitor, and adjust mechanical and utility systems to maintain optimal performance and safety. Conduct routine inspections and performance checks of equipment such as chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and air handling units. Record operating data including temperature, pressure, flow rates, and system performance metrics. Diagnosis and troubleshoot operational issues, coordinating with maintenance staff to perform corrective actions. Perform minor maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with man specifications and contractual requirements. Respond to emergency calls and alarms; take corrective measures to restore system functionality. Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and environmental compliance policies.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



High School Diploma, Vocational School or Trade School Diploma. Ten (10) years performing work on mechanical HVAC systems. HVAC Controls or chilled water distribution systems. Two (2) years of experience in monitoring and controlling major facilities mechanical systems, including chillers, air handlers, pumps, motors, and SCADA/EMCS.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:



Working knowledge of plant systems and critical mechanical infrastructure systems to support multi-building campuses. Works independently Expertise in manual and virtual switching operations Experience troubleshooting alarms, undesired equipment conditions, and completing corrective actions.
