Position Overview:


RTH Mechanical is seeking an experienced

Mechanical/Plumbing Estimator

to join our estimating team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial, institutional, and industrial HVAC and plumbing projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive bids.

Our projects include a wide range of specialized mechanical systems such as high- and low-pressure steam, process piping, boiler installations, chilled water systems, and more.

Key Responsibilities:



Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop detailed mechanical and plumbing estimates. Perform takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment across systems including: Low-Pressure Boiler / Cast Iron and Package Boilers High-Pressure Boilers Water Boilers (High and Low Temperature) Feed Systems, Deaerators, and Condensate Systems Underground Double Wall Steam Distribution Systems (High & Low Pressure) Chilled Water Piping Welded Breaching Installation Steam Piping (High and Low Pressure) Process Piping (Stainless 304L to 316L, Argon Purged) Tubing Systems (Stainless Steel, Copper, and Pneumatic Poly) Complete Plumbing System Design and Installation Chiller Replacements and Rooftop Units Solicit, analyze, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations. Develop detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment. Collaborate with project managers and engineers to identify value engineering options. Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project requirements. Support project handoff meetings by providing a clear summary of bid scope and assumptions. Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and vendor pricing. Ensure estimates are compliant with RTH Mechanical's QA Program (ASME B31, accepted by the Department of the Navy).

Champion and uphold corporate safety standards across all assigned job sites Proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate safety risks; implement corrective actions in real time Demonstrate leadership by modeling and reinforcing a zero compromise, safety first culture at all levels of field operations

Qualifications and Experience:



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical and/or plumbing estimating experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial settings. Familiarity with ASME standards, "R" Stamp capabilities, and QA programs a plus. Strong understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and process piping systems and installation methods. Proficiency with estimating software. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines. Experience working with licensed plumbers, pipefitters, welders, A/C service mechanics, and medical gas certified personnel preferred.

Working Conditions:



Primarily office-based role with frequent use of computers, estimating software, and digital takeoff tools. Occasional visits to construction sites, both active and pre-construction, to review conditions or attend walkthroughs and meetings. May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and boots during site visits. Standard business hours, with additional time as needed to meet bid deadlines. Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring attention to detail and coordination with multiple departments. Collaboration with project managers, engineers, field supervisors, and subcontractors in both office and field settings.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
