SMSI, LLC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Equipment Designer/Creo Designer to join a team of engineering and design personnel. This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials

Duties & Responsibilities:
Mechanical Equipment Designer will work directly with small teams to produce 3D models, drawings and fabrication packages of custom equipment with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.

  • Preparation of component, subassembly and main assembly Pro/E (Creo, Solidworks, or similar 3D modeling) models
  • Create detailed fabrication drawing packages
  • Evaluation and selection of purchased components
  • Create detailed Bills of Materials
  • Utilize provided piping specifications
  • Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures
  • Generate process, mechanical and piping deliverables
  • Interface with process, mechanical, structural, electrical and I&C disciplines.
Position Requirements:
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in related field.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and drawing proficiency CREO, Pro/Engineer, Solidworks, CATIA or equal is required.
  • Proficiency with Creo and Windchill is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Access) a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets and design record documents.
  • Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with our typical equipment is a plus.
  • Background in the development of piping systems is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of the selection of materials for corrosion resistance or decontamination.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Knowledge or experience in the use of national standards including ASME Y14.5.
  • Degree Requirements: 1-2 yr Technical Program is strongly preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
