Job Summary



Mechanical Engineer - Production Support

will design and develop

production support tools, fixtures, and jigs

based on direct input from the production line. The Engineer will work closely with production staff, supervisors, technicians, quality engineers and cross-functional engineering teams to identify problems and bottlenecks, improve ergonomics, and enhance manufacturing efficiency through effective solutions. These designs will directly support the manufacture and assembly of high-precision aerospace components and systems.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Collaborate with production line operators, quality engineers, and manufacturing supervisors to gather requirements and feedback for new or modified fixtures, tools and jigs. Design and develop custom jigs, fixtures, and support tools to aid in assembly, testing, and manufacturing processes. Use CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, or similar) to create 3D models and detailed engineering drawings. Prototype and validate tool/jig designs for usability, durability, and effectiveness. Implement continuous improvements based on production feedback and performance data. Support tooling fabrication, including working with internal teams or external suppliers. Ensure all designs meet safety standards, ergonomic best practices, and manufacturing tolerances. Document designs, revisions, and standard operating procedures for each tool developed. Contribute to cross-functional problem-solving teams to resolve production challenges. Maintain inventory and lifecycle tracking of tools and fixtures used on the floor Participate in design reviews, FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), and root cause investigations related to tooling or assembly issues. Provide on-site support during new production launches and process changes

Basic Employment Requirements



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 2+ years of experience in tooling or fixture design and production support within an aerospace or high-precision manufacturing environment. Proficiency in 3D CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks, or similar). Hands-on experience with mechanical design, prototyping, and basic machining processes. Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes, GD&T, and tight-tolerance assemblies. Strong understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and ergonomic principles. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate production issues into design solutions. Effective communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications



Experience with

AS9100

or equivalent aerospace quality systems. Knowledge of aerospace materials (e.g., aluminum alloys, titanium, composites). Understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools. Experience working with NC/CNC machining and precision metrology. Familiarity with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Adept, Syteline)
