Summary:




The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, evaluation, and improvement of mechanical systems and plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role focuses on system upgrades, mechanical design, and engineering support for capital projects and existing equipment. The position also contributes to process engineering efforts by providing subject matter expertise to ensure process capability and design intent.

Minimum Hiring Rate: $70,700/year Maximum Hiring Rate: $110,000/year Monthly Bonus opportunities up to 9% of base monthly pay

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Leads the design, specification, and implementation of plant mechanical systems and upgrades, including utilities, production equipment, and support systems. Develops equipment layouts, mechanical drawings, and design packages using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Oversees mechanical aspects of capital projects, including vendor interface, installation planning, and startup support. Identifies and implements mechanical improvements to increase equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety. Provides engineering support for troubleshooting chronic mechanical issues and equipment failures. Evaluates and recommends modifications to existing equipment and systems based on operational feedback, safety concerns, and performance data. Works closely with the plant manufacturing process to integrate mechanical design with process requirements and quality standards. Maintains and updates facility utility and equipment layout drawings to reflect current conditions and future plans. Assists in the development and review of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies and schedules for mechanical equipment. Develops technical documentation including standard operating procedures, work instructions, start-up/shutdown guides, and maintenance checklists. Participates in equipment validations, mechanical FAT/SATs, and commissioning protocols. Supports the creation and revision of mechanical portions of risk assessments, PFMEAs, and design reviews. Serves as the SME for mechanical systems across the plant, providing training and guidance to technicians and operations personnel. Responds promptly to urgent production and maintenance needs with engineering countermeasures. Participates in cross-functional teams for continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen and root cause analysis events. Supports sister facilities with mechanical knowledge, training, and engineering collaboration (remotely and through travel as required). Must make the necessary arrangements to be accessible by phone and email on a reasonable, as-needed basis outside of set work hours to support the needs of production or maintenance. Qualifications:



Education and/or Experience:



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering highly preferred. 5+ years of experience in mechanical system design and industrial plant equipment required. Experience with plant utility systems (compressed air, chilled water, hydraulics, etc.) and production line mechanical systems.

Computer Skills:



Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for mechanical design. Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with CMMS and project tracking systems preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:



Deep understanding of machine design, tolerances, fits, and mechanical fabrication methods. Working knowledge of industrial safety practices, OSHA standards, and mechanical codes. Familiarity with electrical/mechatronic systems and how they integrate with mechanical design is preferred. Skilled in root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and mechanical system optimization. Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:



Electrical Safety Certification (awareness level) required. Powered Industrial Equipment License preferred.

Physical Demands:



Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and use of hands for detailed work; occasional standing and walking.

Work Environment:



Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to high places, airborne particles, chemical fumes, vibration, and electrical risk. * Moderate noise levels as typical of a manufacturing environment.
