Montana Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) is a residential academic intervention program on the campus of the University of Montana Western for 16-18 year old students who are at risk of high school dropout. Designed by the National Guard Bureau and run through a cooperative agreement between the federal government and the state of Montana, the Academy offers military style structure and discipline along with academic, professional, and life-coping skills students need to become productive citizens. The Academy's staff are professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a dedication to our mission and who enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rewarding environment.
MYCA is seeking a Math Teacher to work with the team of educators to help Montana students succeed in their academic journey.
Responsibilities include: Researching and developing curriculum, monitoring and evaluating academic progress and providing guidance for individual development. This position reports to the MYCA Education Program Specialist and does not supervise others.
The MYCA provides two 22-week programs of development, per year, for approximately 120 youth participants in each program ranging in age from 16 to 18 years. Occasional travel is required, including two, 2 week off-site programs and other events.
This position is included in the Academic Teacher Career Ladder. Advancement and placement within the ladder is based upon individual qualifications, successful job performance, possession of certification according to each career level, and program knowledge. Must have demonstrated ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the Department.
State of Montana employment may qualify for student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelors degree in education, or a related field. Must possess certification from the State of MT, Class 1, 2, or 5 in Mathematics. Two years teaching experience is preferred.
Conditions of employment: Current MT Teachers Certification is required. Must pass a pre-employment drug test, background check and driving record check. Must have a valid drivers license.
