Job Description

61 North Environmental (www.61northalaska.com) is currently seeking biologists to serve as protected species observers (PSOs) for a shore-based project in Anchorage, Alaska. The duration of the project is approximately 6-7 months starting in April. The candidate must live locally in Anchorage or close enough to commute. The PSO's duties include documenting marine mammal sightings and behavioral data, environmental conditions, and construction/vessel activities as instructed in the marine mammal monitoring and mitigation plan. PSOs will communicate shutdowns to the construction crew to cease in-water work when appropriate. Applicant needs to be able to work up to 12 hours/day in inclement weather and successfully work in small groups/spaces for long periods.



Full-time seasonal positions are available



Project-specific training will be provided



Experience with data entry on laptop



Reliable car to commute to job site required



Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis with overtime



Typical work week: 10-12hours day/5-6 days a week



A background in marine mammal observation or Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field is required. To be consider for a Lead PSO position, the candidate must have prior experience monitoring marine construciton activities authorized under an IHA or LOA
